No monthly payment involved and no extra communication charges. The dog owner has the freedom to set up a fence. Any time the dog goes beyond the defined perimeter; audible alarm is produced to alert the dog owner. It has a portable LCD colour screen which shows the location, speed and direction of the dog. A Romeo dog tracker can monitor three dogs at the same time.

Another good example is the Gamin Astro. Like the Romeo it does not require GSM. But unlike the Romeo it sends information from dog to owner through radio signals. It has two parts; a potable transmitter, which is called DC 20 and a portable colour screen GPS device which is hand-held. To activate the system, the transmitter and hand-held should be taken out doors and turned on to acquire satellite signals. The transmitter is then worn on the dog. The system can monitor up to 10 dogs at the same time.

The GPS technology can also monitor animals, vehicles and human beings especially children.
