It is always enjoyable to get a new puppy but it will be easier if you have a few of the equipment that you need on hand before he comes home. You will want to begin schooling him right away to be a respectable puppy resident and a valued member of your family. It is easier if you have the gear that you need on hand.

There is an large quantity of things that you can get for your new puppy. Some of these things are advantageous and useful to have and others are not really required.

Probably the most imperative thing that you will want is a crate. Dogs like to have their own space that is pleasant and comfy just for them. All of your training will be easier if you employ a crate. Get one that is the appropriate size for your puppy. If you take your puppy with you in the car very often you may want to get two.

You will also need a collar and a leash. Get at least one collar that fits well and then you can get special training collars later. One six-foot leash that feels good in your hand is also indispensable.

Any food changes should be made slowly so try to find out what type of food your puppy is used to eating. Get enough of that for at least a few weeks. If you want to change it later, do it slowly. A stainless steel food and water dish combo is also crucial.

For training purposes, you will need some type of aversive, or something that you can use do deter disobedient behavior. An aversive is something that your dog does not like and will work to stay away from but something that will not hurt him. A clicker that makes a noise or a squirt bottle will act as an aversive. You will also need some soft treats that you can use as a reward in training.

Young puppies need to chew until they get a bit bigger so you will want to have some chew toys on hand. Start out with just a few until you know what your puppy likes. Same with other toys do not load up on toys until you know your puppy’s persona.

It will be easier to take care of your new puppy if you are equipped with a few of the items that you will need. Gather up these things first before you bring you new puppy home.
