Does this sound familiar? It’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and you decide to take the dog for a walk. He’s really excited to go, as always, but he pulls so hard on the leash that by the time you get to the end of the driveway, he’s up on his hind legs. You’re supposed to be the one walking on two legs, not him. But don’t despair. There’s a harness on the market now that just might help.

I have a beagle who fits this exact description. We finally came across a product that now makes walks almost enjoyable. It cut down on the pulling from the first time we used it. It’s the Yuppie Puppy Anti-Pull harness from Orrco, Incorporated, and it’s the best device for a number of reasons.

First, it’s the only one we’ve come across that’s endorsed by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. We’ve tried several, but this is the only one that worked right away. If it’s good enough for the ASPCA, it’s good enough for me. . .and my beagle.

Next, it’s super easy to get it on and off the dog. Have you ever seen a harness that was so complicated, you needed an engineering degree to figure it out? Me too.

Third, even if your dog pulls, the harness is guaranteed not to choke. If I had to pick one negative, it would be a small buckle that rests against the chest. If your dog is a puller, it may cause a little rash-like mark, but that’s about it. It certainly doesn’t hurt him. I wouldn’t let that keep me from giving it a try.

Fourth, there are padded sherpa sleeves that fit under the legs. Most other harnesses are unpadded and cause chafing, especially for a dog that pulls excessively. This one provides added comfort.

Finally, if this is a big deal to you, it comes in more than one color. If you don’t like black, pick the red one or vice versa. Not a huge deal, but you have the option.

I’m sure your dog is like our beagle. She loves to take a walk. Is she a perfect walker? Let’s say it’s a work in progress, but the harness has helped from the get-go. I strongly recommend trying it.
