Owning parrots as pets is growing rapidly in popularity. Purchasing a parrot from a rescue organization or pet store is always an option. However, when purchasing directly from a parrot breeder, there will be more likelihood to receive the parrot’s history, methods of care, and personality information. It is of the greatest importance that a lifelong parrot companion be chosen from reputable parrot breeders with a high standard of quality care, dedication to safety, and trustworthiness.

Raising a healthy parrot depends a lot on that particular breeders methods. Feeding the parrots is a huge part of the duties of a parrot breeder. Different types of parrots have different responses to feedings. Breeders are responsible for giving their parrots nutritious and safe food. They are also responsible for weaning the parrot babies before they are sold. Young parrots should be eating fresh produce, warm soft food, pellets and or seeds.

Cage care and size is also necessary to note. Parrot cages are the largest on the market, and they should be. Parrot breeders should now that parrots need to feel safe and at home in their cages. Additionally, when purchasing from a quality breeder, the chances of bird diseases or illness are much lower. Because they love what they do, many breeders take superb care of their parrots. When researching parrot breeders, make sure they allow you to view the breeding facilities, parrot cages, and food storage areas. Quality breeders will have no problem with that request, and may even offer first. It is important to note, some breeders are in the business strictly for financial reasons. Beware of breeders who will not allow you to view the facilities, have difficulty answering questions about specific care practices, and request high fees up front. A parrot is an investment. The purchase should be dealt with in a business-like manner. Contracts, agreements, and other paperwork should be involved before the purchase time.

Some parrot breeders are more knowledgeable then pet store owners and continue to breed parrots for the love of the breed. If you choose to buy a parrot through a breeder you will have a better chance of purchasing a well adjusted, happy, and more importantly healthy bird that will last a lifetime.
